최남선과 이와야 사자나미의 ‘소년상’ 비교연구 = Comparative Study of the images “Boys” in Choi Nam Seon and Iwaya Sazanami

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study compared the images of ‘boy’ in modern children's magazines through the first issue of Sazanami's “The World of Boys ”(1895.1.1) and Choi Nam-sun's “Boys” (November 1, 1908). As a result of examining the issue and purpose of the issue through the first issue of both magazines, it was intended to awaken a boy suitable for the situation of the times.
Sazanami emphasized the superiority of Japan in the Sino-Japanese War and injected nationalistic ideas into the boys. Choi Nam-sun emphasized the enlightenment of boys to advance into the world and learn new knowledge. They are prominent in their universality and specificity in that they have presented a new boy prize that matches the culture of the time.
The character of the boy appearing in both magazines is clear. The “The World of Boys” was a war magazine tailored to militarism. In the novel “Hinomaru” published in the first issue of “The World of Boys”, we presented a boy prize based on “Momotaro”. This novel emphasized that the boys should grow up and encourage them to enter the battlefield for the emperor, and at the same time, act widely in the world. As Sasanami witnessed the rise of interest in the era of the Sino-Japanese War, he was forced to criticize children for their role in mobilizing the nation's status and interests.
On the other hand, Choi Nam-sun's < Boy > was educating new modern people, and such modern people were represented as ‘Boy’. Choi Nam-Sun's intention was to disseminate global knowledge through magazines, and he saw that only the boy who possessed such knowledge could be the protagonist who could lead a new civilization and nation. I finally saw it as a civilized country as a destination to which the boy would arrive, and a sea as a backdrop to open a new civilization. He presented the “A marine boy” for adventuring the sea through the poem “From the Sun to the Boy”.
As we have seen, Sazanami and Choi Nam-sun not only established the term ‘boy’ in Japan and Korea, but also played a role in informing the boy's status, role and importance as a social subject. Therefore, the significance of modern Korean children's literary history in both Korea and Japan of Sazanami's “The World of Boys” and Choi Nam-sun's “Boys” is important.
