The concepts, processes, results and problems of American graphic design education was studied through the articles, books, web sites and interviews with design educators as well as the graphic design classes. In a state of flux through new technology and needs for specification and integration from new society and culture, graphic design education should be changed and reorganized the purposes, structures and contents, even though it was based on Bauhaus education. American graphic design education need to changes in graphic design category, position, program philosophies and structures, formal graphic design foundation courses, educational period, and balance of contents. This study is expected to be a great help as a prior example for the graphic design education direction in Korea.
