회복과정에서 정신장애인의 자아 인식에 대한 질적 연구 = A study on the self awareness of people with psychiatric disabilities in the recovery process

Recently, the recovery paradigm is emphasized as a process of rebuilding a meaningful life beyond treatment for symptoms in the mental health field. The purpose of this study is to perform in-depth analysis on the self-awareness, which is suggested to be the most important factor in the recovery process. To this end, we conducted in-depth interviews with 14 people with psychiatric disabilities and analyzed the contents. The results showed that after the onset of the illness, self-awareness had been overwhelmed by the identity with a ‘mental illness’. but through the recovery process, it concentrates more on the self that they truly desire and integrates into a whole entity. These changes are made internally through self-understanding, positive thinking, and the meaning of life, further interconnected with the control over illnesses, supportive relationships, and growth experiences. The results of this study suggest the importance of relationships with society, family, peers, and recovery-oriented practices.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 정신건강영역에서는 증상치료를 넘어 의미 있는 삶을 다시 만들어나가는 과정으로서 회복 패러다임이 강조되고 있다. 본 연구는 회복에서 가장 중요한 요소로 제시되고 있는 자아인식에 대해 깊이 있게 분석하고자 하는 목적을 가진다. 이를 위해 14명의 정신장애인을 대상으로 심층면담을 하여 주제 분석을 실시 하였다. 분석결과, 발병 후 ‘정신질환자’로서의 정체성에 압도된 자아인식은 회복과정을 통해 정신질환이 아닌 자신이 원하는 진짜 모습에 보다 집중하게 되고 온전한 자아로 통합되어간다. 이러한 변화는 증상통제, 지지관계, 성취경험을 통해 자기이해, 주체의지, 삶의 의미를 발견해나가는 과정으로 이루어졌다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 정신장애인의 자아인식에 상호영향을 미치는 사회, 가족, 동료와의 관계와 회복지향실천의 중요성을 제안하였다.
