Man, as a symbol-using animal, not only accepts the symbols but also create them. Society provides the meaning of symbols and symbols become currency among the members of society. Thus human symbolic interactions become the foundations for a society. Political leaders tries to get their political authority by constructing the dominant conceptual structure through the manipulation of symbols, while men lead the political lives through their interactions with the political symbols of various kinds.
2) symbol and politics: A comparative Analysis on the Symbol of the Democracy and the Fascism
Politics is a Area, in which Miranda and Credena interact with each other in a complicated dynamic way. If a man is considered as a political animal, he expresses mutual solidality through a symbol or a symbolic system. Human beings understand this world and give its meanings through a symbolic conception.
3)The Politico-theoretical Study on the Relations Between Human Experiences and Symbolization:
Focusing on Cassirer, Voegelin and Camus

1차년도에 행해진 연구는 다음과 같다
1) 상징과 정치적 권위
인간은 상징을 사용하는 동물로서 인간은 상징을 수용할 뿐만 아니라, 창조하기도 한다. 인간은 여러 가지 종류의 정치적 상징에 상호작용함으로써 정치생활을 영위하며 지배자는 상징을 통하여 개념구조를 장악함으로써 정치적 권위를 확립하고자 한다.
2) 상징과정치:민주주의체제와 전체주의체제의 상징에 대한 비교분석
정치는 미란다와 크레덴다가 복합적인 역학관계에서 상호작용하면서 이루어지는 영역이다. 인간이 원래 정치적 동물이라고 규정할 경우, 이 정치적 동물은 특정한 상징 혹은 상징체계를 통해 서로의 연대를 표시한다.
3)인간의 경험과 상징(화)의 관계에 대한 정치이론적 고찰:
카시러, 보에글린, 까뮈를 중심으로
상징은 인간의 개인적 ･ 집단적 경험을 명료화시킬 뿐만 아니라 이러한 경험에 의미와 함축성을 부여하는 데 있어서 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 연구에서는 카시러(Ernst Cassirer, 1874-1945), 보에글린(Eric Voegelin, 1901-1985), 까뮈(Albert Camus, 1913-1960)의 상징이론들이 지니는 정신적 교감의 유의미성을 보여주는 세 가지 측면에 관해 논의한다.
4) 국가상징과 뉴스미디어의 현실구성
본 연구는 미디어의 발달과정에서 국가상징이 어떻게 표현되어 왔는지에 관해 논의하며, 국가상징이 현실구성과정에서 어떠한 사회적 의미를 갖게 되는지를 검토한다
5) 정치와 건축적 상징
본 연구에서는 정치 체제가 건축적 상징을 통하여 구현되는 방식을 이해하고 정치이데올로기와 건축적 상징과의 상관성에 관해 분석하고자 한다.
6)상징과 소비에트 정치문화
사회주의 러시아의 정치문화는 볼쉐비키가 동원한 상징들에 영향을 받았다. 소비에트와 ‘레닌'은 각종 정치적 상징들이 체계화되는 축이었다. ‘레닌’이 사회주의 이념을 상징했다면, 소비에트는 사회주의 제도를 상징하는 가운데 밑에서 ‘레닌’의 민주성을 보증했다.
2차년도에 이루어진 연구는 다음과 같다
1) 상징으로서의 예술과 정치
예술은 인간의 감성을 자극함으로써 상징체계를 형성하고 장악한다. 감성을 자극한다는 것은 인간이 가진 감정의 구조를 강화시키거나 변경시키기 때문이다. 인간이 예술이 제시하는 감정의 구조를 수용하는 것은 예술이 가져다 준 감정의 구조가 윤리적인 감정을 일깨우기 때문이다.
2) 나치체제와 상징
본 연구에서는 다음의 사실을 논의하려 한다. "노동이 인간을 자유롭게 만든다" 혹은 "기쁨을 통한 힘"이라는 정치적 수사학을 내건 나치체제는 사회구성원들에게 어떠한 이미지 나아가 상징을 통해 헤게모니를 획득하였는가 하는 점이다.
3) 한국의 정치변동과 상징의 변화:
건국 ･ 근대화 ･ 민주화를 중심으로
이 연구에서는 한국의 정치변동이 정치상징의 변화와 어떻게 연계되어 있는가를 중점적으로 조명하고 있다. 건국 이후 정치 패러다임은 동일성의 원리를 그 주요 요소로 하며, 이를 정당화하는 상징은 ‘일민’이었던 반면, 조국근대화시기에 정치 패러다임은 효율성의 원리에 기반을 두고 있다.
4)애국가 동영상에 나타난 상징분석
국가상징은 일상적 미디어를 통해 구체적 이미지를 재생산하고 있다. 애국가는 국민의례의 애국가를 일상생활 속으로 확장시키는 기능을 담당하고 있다.
