은유적 합성명사의 의미구성 유형에 대한 인지의미론적 고찰 = A Cognitive-Semantic Approach on the Meaning Construction Patterns of Metaphorical Noun-Noun Compounds

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to examine the patterns of metaphorical meaning construction involved in Korean noun-noun compounds. The majority of recent cognitive analyses of compounding focuses on the aspects of conceptual blending or the metaphorical property attribution in typical modifier-head relation, whereby various types of metaphorical mapping within a constituent, between the constituents, and between the whole compound and its implicit head are ignored or not properly distinguished. Inspired by and based on the idea of Benczes (2006), this paper proposes five patterns of metaphorical meaning construction in compounding: X(→A)-Y, X→Y, X-Y(→B), X(→A)-Y(→B), and XY(→Z). It is attempted to clarify the frequently confused types X(→A)-Y and X→Y, and the relatively neglected type XY(→Z) is discussed in some detail. The type X(→A)-Y(→B) is reported to be not so productive, but in Korean some evidence is found to support its productivity.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 명사+명사 합성어에서 수식부와 머리가 나타내는 두 개념의 결합에 의한 의미구성에 은유적 개념화 과정이 개입하는 양상을 유형 별로 고찰하는 데 있다. 합성어는 문법적 구 성과는 달리 의미관계 표시가 없이 단순 결합을 통해 이루어짐으로써 구성요소 간의 의미관계가 아주 다양하며, 여기에 은유가 개입될 때 의미구성 관계는 매우 복잡해진다. 은유적 XY 합성어에 대한 종래의 접근은 주로 [Y는 X이다]라는 도식(X→Y) [X→Y]는 근원영역(X)에서 목표영역(Y)으로의 매핑(사상)을 나타내므로, [X는 Y이다]가 아니라, [Y는 X이다]로 해석되어야 하는 점에 유의할 필요가 있다.
의 개념적 은유에 주목하고 X가 은유적 이미지를 Y에 투사하는 속성부여 측면을 강조해 왔다. 그러나 X와 Y의 관계적 의미연결을 함께 고려할 때, 은유가 작동하는 구성요소는 X뿐만 아니라 Y일 수도 있고 X, Y 모두 일 수도 있으며, XY 개념결합체 전체가 은유의 근원영역이 될 수도 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 은유적 합성명사의 의미구성 유형을 크게 다섯 가지로 구분한다. X(→A)-Y, X→Y, X-Y(→B), X(→A)-Y(→B), XY(→Z)로 표시할 수 있는 이 유형들의 특징과 상호연관성을 한국어의 예를 중심으로 살펴보는데, 특히 기존 연구에서 혼동되어 온 X(→A)-Y 유형과 X→Y 유형의 구분에 주력하며, 상대적으로 주목받지 못한 XY(→Z) 유형에 대해서도 논의한다.
