Adaptive Behaviors of Adolescents with Asperger Syndrome

For the last two decades, not much attention has been given to the adaptive behavior of individuals with Asperger syndrome (AS) and relatively few studies have been conducted in this area. This study investigated the adaptive behavior of fifty-seven individuals with AS ages 12 to 18 in order to provide a better understanding of this exceptionality. A multiple linear regression was performed to determine if age, intelligent quotient, and gender could predict the adaptive behavior of this population. The results indicate that individuals with AS showed difficulties across all adaptive behavior subdomains including communication, daily living skills, and socialization. In addition, none of the aforementioned variables significantly predicted adaptive behavior of the sample who participated in this study.
