As the e-Business expands its area and lots of Information
System projects are planned and carried out, the failures
from these projects are increasing. From the project
manage ment point of view, the exclusion of these failures is
necessary when operating the information system projects.
To do this, the thorough identification of the risk factors that
might occur in the project and tight management of them
should be exercised throughout the whole project period.
Based on the solid background of literature reviews, surveys,
and interviews with the specialists in the field, this paper
newly developed the lists of risk factors that are also ranked
in their of importance, which can significantly influence the
IS projects.
This study grouped the risk factors into the three failure
types - time(schedule), cost(budget), and the quality
(performance) related types. The list of risk factors then,
were measured based on these three areas separately.
The different views of the consultants and the system
developers on the risk factors were participated for the
comparison purposes for their roles in the projects.
This research was accomplished by adoption to the domestic
information system environment. The results indicated that
the correlations between the risk factors and the failure types
are significant. The current study can provide a base for
understanding the risk factors in the IS project, so that tight
monitoring and successful manage ment can systematically
reduce the number of failures of the future projects.
