      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

After 1900, the 'Nonseol' section of the Hwangseong Shinmun underwent greater change due to the emergence of a series of sections (such as Giseo, Sajo, Soseol, etc.) What is noteworthy is that around 1906, when the Soseol section appeared, book review editorials on foreign books emerged, the prime examples of which are Dokwolnammangguksa and Dokuidaeguguksamgeoljeon published in the Hwangseong Shinmun.
Although Dokwolnammangguksa and Dokuidaeguguksamgeoljeon have been examined mainly on the issues of author and translation, their significance and and genre features have not. These works commonly include the name of a specific book along with the word dok in their titles, and many were published not only in the Hwangseong Shinmun but in the Daehan Maeil Shinbo as well.
In this paper, the origin and characteristics as book reviews are discussed focusing on 'Dokhuseol' works which were published in the Hwangseong Shinmun. Through this, you can observe the modern transformation process of 'Nonseol' section. Many Dokhuseol works, with their subject and form changing even along with the change and settlement of 'Nonseol', were continuously published. In that they are the remaining form of 'Short Narrative' and also the modern 'Nonbyunryu', they are anticipated to be an important foundation for identifying the flow of narrative literature and the characteristics of the modern Nonseol.
