      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      I-Ui-Yeogji(以意逆志, to receive a writer`s meaning by way of my mind) is a sort of reading method. Maengja mentioned I-Ui-Yeogjiin the course of conversation with one of his pupils, Ham Gu-Mong about the analysis method of a poem, by which he pointed out that Ham Gu-Mong`s poetic analysis was not right. The Chosun literati in 16th century sought to find a way of turning the poetic analysis method, I-Ui-Yeogji, into a sort of reading method. In 17th century, their effort was deepening. In 18th century, I-Ui-Yeogji finally became a theory of I-Ui-Yeogji, a systemic reading theory. Chosun literati completed a systemic I-Ui-Yeogji reading theory to identify their ideal of reading. I-Ui-Yeogji reading method as a comprehensive criterion framework of Chosun literati forms its system by way of triangle axles such as reader, writer`s meaning, text or language. According to the system of I-Ui-Yeogji, a reader is supposed to have an attitude of Jeonyeon-heosim(全然虛心), and then he peruses the language of writer so as to receive the writer`s meaning enough to express the language of the writer with his own language. The language playes a role of path to the writer`s meaning, and also the writer`s meaning functions as a standard to correct what is wrong with the language, misspelled words and omitted words, and contextual disparities. The reader, performing these reading behaviors sincerely, lets the writer`s meaning come by naturally and then he accepts and internalizes the meaning, and finally he realizes that the writer`s meaning already exists in his heart. At the same time, he is able to set up his own opinion, and completes the course of reading by practicing it. It means that the I-Ui-Yeogji reading theory has not only a self-supportive structure taking the meaning of reader and writer, and language as a basic element, but also an interdependent structure which enables a reader to accept and internalize the writer`s meaning and further to set up a reader`s own opinion. In view of the historical development of I-Ui-Yeogji reading theory, an emphasis on the triangular axes such as the reader, the meaning of the writer, has been shifted according to the times, by which we can find out the diversities of communicative flow within the reading theory. Today, the issue in reading theory is about which axis we put more emphasis on, where we are supposed to shift the emphasis among the axes, and then how we set a communication flow between the axes. Consequently, the I-Ui-Yeogji reading theory can be a model for the development of modern reading method or reading program which needs a multi-foundation shift of the emphasis, as the I-Ui-Yeogji reading theory has in itself elastic structure, a structure of triangular feedbacking communication, and then it allows an emphasis shift and the change of communication flow due to the shift.
