    The primary purpose of this study was to be explored the visual design strategies of text information structure for developing e-Learning content. The present study has comprised two types of research: the initial developmental research and the experimental research. In the initial development stage, factors including properties of text structure have been drawn on the basis of existing researches, and then visual design strategies have been devised. To visually represent the text structure available Human Visual Intelligence were explored. In the experimental stage, for the purpose of verifying those principles, an e-learning contents in four types covering the principles has been developed. 126 undergraduate students were randomly sampled into four groups, and read the digital texts, whose topic is the concept and some theories of distance education. The experiment was designed in such a way that it can depict the students` awareness of text structure and text comprehension. As a result of development research, physical factors including properties of text structure are categorized into macro and micro ones. As for macro properties, outline, space, volume, density, and depth are included; as for micro properties, layout, size, length, and signals of the texts are included. Design strategies for visual representation of text structure included design of information display, browsing, navigation, and learning environment control. As a result of experiment research, findings regarding to usability and learning effectiveness(awareness of text structure, text comprehension) were as follows; As awareness of text structure concerned, design principles for visual representation of the text structure form was most effective(M=8.20, SD=4.74, F=12.80, p=.00). As text comprehension concerned, design principles for visual representation of the text structure form was most effective(M=17.57, SD=1.37, F=5.83, p=.01). In designing digital text, the result of this study seemed to explain the positive potential of visual representation design strategies of text structure. Online learners tend to construct mental model and learn by constructing the meaning, using visual representation referential processing which readers comprehend the details of the texts.
