Sok-Ju Kwon, Ph'il 石洲 權韓(1569∼1612) and Tong-Ak Yi, An-Nul
東岳 李安訥(1571∼1637) were poets in Son-Jo's period. The period was
in political and economic confusion. But the culture was called "Mok
Rung Song Se" 穆陸盛世, or the prolific period of literary works. Sok-
Ju and Tong-Ak were called two geniuses of poetry in this period.
The distinguished chracteristic of literary tendency in this period was
to learn Tang Dynasty's poetry as a model. In this restoration tendency,
these two poets quite understanded the literary tendency, and they gai-
ned the summit in chinese poetry of the Choson Dynasty.
This study, first, examines the investigation on two poets of the days
and later ages rather than the concrete analysis on their poetry, and
extracts common points in the investigations, also examines their versi-
fication manner. These examinations will be a great help to understan-
ding on their poetry. Continually, this study inspects their life and fri-
endship through their poetry.
The result of examination of the investigation on two poets shows to
be extreme contrast in understanding of literary men on their poetry.
The poetry of Sok-Ju was chracterized be "Significance of tender, bea-
utiful, balanced and natural emotion," and The poetry of Tong-Ak was
chracterized by "deep, strong and calm courtest and generosity." These
are related to their versification manner. Considering their versification
manner through the literature, Sok-Ju was extempore and vivid, on the
other hand, Tong-Ak was prudent and serious.
They lived in the period when the social contradiction of the Choson
Dynasty was maximizing. They conflicted with the contradiction of the
period. Tong-Ak started his career as an official, but Sok-Ju didn't do
so. Their anthology are the collections of their intercourse poetry. There
are many reciprocal poems for one another. The poems show their fri-
endship. Their reciprocal poems are about one hundred and fifty. The
majority of them are poems of longing for one another. This study exa-
mines several poems of them, investigates their character and friends-
ship.
Sok-Ju and Tong-Ak were intimate friends. Their talent for poetry
prospered through their friendship.
