《花樣年華》의 政治的 意味 小考Ⅱ = A Study of the Political Implications of “In the Mood for Love(花樣年華)”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

주지하듯 왕가위의 영화는 여러 독법으로 해석할 여지가 있다. 조홍선은 왕가위의 영화 《花樣年華》가 1997년 홍콩이 중국으로 반환되고 3년 뒤인 2000년, 정치적으로 민감한 시기 1960대 홍콩을 배경으로 제목을 ‘내 인생에서 가장 아름다운 시절’이라는 사전적 의미를 갖는 ‘花樣年華’로 설정한 것에 대하여 의구심을 가지고 《花樣年華》에 담긴 정치적 의미를 분석하였으며 영화에 등장하는 소재들을 정치적 요소로 보아 여러 가지 의문점을 견인 해내었다. 필자는 그가 분석한 연구 성과를 토대로 그가 제시하는 의문점에 대한 해답을 시탐해 보고자 한다. 이는 영화의 주제인 ‘두 사람의 사랑 이야기’라는 외표에 가려진 감독이 영화에 숨겨놓은 홍콩에 대한 메시지를 탐색하는 작업일 것이다.

Wong Kar Wai’s films are open to multiple interpretations. Wong Kar Wai’s film “In the Mood for Love(花樣年華)” is set in Hong Kong in the 1960s, a politically sensitive time, in 2000, three years after the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997. Cho Hong Sun questioned the choice of the title “In the Mood for Love(花樣年華)”, which has a dictionary meaning of “the most beautiful time of my life”. He analysed the political meaning of “In the Mood for Love(花樣年華)” and raised a number of questions about the political elements in the film. Based on his analysis, I am trying to answer the questions he raised. In doing so, I explore the message about Hong Kong that the director hides behind the surface of “a love story between two people”.
