명대 주변부 문인의 삶과 <주생전> = 「Jusaengjun」 and Shanren under the Ming Dynasty

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

「Jusaengjun」 is based on an actual event in respect that it is a typical Cheongi novel and the author wrote after directly listening to the story of Jusaeng from Cheondang, who participated in the Japanese Invasion of Korea as one of Ming soldiers. Jusaeng may be a real person or fictitious character created from a Ming soldier which the author met. Personal records on the Ming soldiers have not been found, but Jusaeng’s deeds is quite similar to those of writers who were called Shanren in the Ming Dynasty.
As mentioned in previous studies, Jusaeng is the male main character who breaks faith and drives desires, and is a character type that never appeared in Cheonggi novel. If trying to understand this character from the characteristics of the group called Shanren who participated in the Japanese Invasion of Korea, i.e. outside of the novel, not finding from the development process of novel history, a discussion quite different from what we have observed in the existing studies can be proceeded. If understanding Jusaeng’s failure, frustration, love, and desire from the characteristics of the Shanren under the Ming Dynasty, not narrowing down to a particular personal matter, it could make Jusaeng’s mentality and deeds quite obvious. Therefore in this thesis a discussion was made by linking up living aspects of writes called Shanren appeared in the class change of Ming writers with Jusaengjun.
