    The purpose of this study is to compare the differences between life satisfaction of elderly living alone who have a social support network and those who do not. The subjects of the study consisted of 197 elderly people over 65 years old living alone in the Pusan, Taegu, and Ulsan metropolitan areas. The data were collected by purposive sample methods using an interview with a questionnaire, and analyzed by frequencies, percentages, means, Cronbach`s α , correlation coefficients, t/F-test. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, the majority of the subjects were elderly women(83.2%), older than 70 years(72.1%), with less than an elementary education(90.3%), living alone over 5 years(72.6%), and having religious affiliations(78.7%). Second, the satisfaction with life of the elderly living alone was significantly related to their social support network. In other words, the less social support network they had, the less satisfaction they had with their lives. Finally, the satisfaction with life of the elderly living alone was directly related to their economic status and health status. That is to say, most elderly persons indicated low life satisfaction had low economic status and health status.
