The GPS(Global Positioning System) developed in 1960s has been widely used in practical use since 1990s in the field of LBS(Location Based Service), navigation of airplanes, ships, cars and field surveying. Specially, The Real Time Kinematic, named as RTK-GPS, is used a lot in field surveying parts.
Through the RTK-GPS surveying method, a range of centimeter(cm) accuracy can be acquired by transmitting the correction value information from a reference station set up in a known point to a rover station set up in an unknown position.
But, this surveying method always needs to have two GPS receivers composed of a reference station and a rover station and it also has a weak point because the two stations should be closed within the distance limit of 15km.
Therefore, the user should pay a cost to buy two receivers and have the limit of surveying distance. To solve these problems the VRS(Virtual Reference System) surveying method with GPS has been developed for alternative way of RTK-GPS.
So far, the surveying of ground control points is usually composed by static GPS surveying method in cadastral survey and recently the RTK-GPS is frequently used in large-scale of projects such as a land consolidation and a readjustment surveying, but its use is limited because it has some fitting-out problems of the coordinates system in surveying.
Accordingly, This study has a sufficient positive result in VRS's surveying accuracy by drawing a comparison between the WGS84 coordinates of VRS surveying result and the static GPS surveying result's for cadastral control points. In addition, it shows the possibility of its field application as well.
