      This study tried to analyze issue of modernity focusing on the process of forming ``Seeing Subject`` in poems written by Jeong Ji-yong. Modernity of poems written by Jeong Ji-yong was possible by aesthetically achieving independent gaze and by creating another space for gaze under such a achievement. Jeong`s poems show modern aspects where image is built by superior visual subject. Sensory excellence of his poems can be explained from the aspect of adventure of gaze progressed by Seeing Subject. Gaze in his poems views the spectacle of panoramic landscape from the modes of moving modern transportation such as ``deck on ship`` or ``train``. Or his poems show that gaze moves towards outside from a closed place of inside glass window and again returns to closed room. Here, ``deck on ship``, ``train``, ``glass window`` have a meaning as the places where identity of modern Seeing Subject is made. Modern gaze in Jeong`s poems creates poetic subject that reorganizes landscape and memory from a center of one viewpoint. In the poems of second half in 1930s, adventure of gaze produces two different transitions. As in 「Sea 9」, Seeing Subject deletes outer appearance of personality in poetic narrator and creates another Seeing Subject that views the landscape through a sort of transcendent gaze. In 「Baekrokdam」, adventure of gaze becomes one of physical body where body directly contacts and reacts nature. Nature does not been observed from fixed viewpoint but physical body communicates with nature according to movement of body. Here, poetic subject of Jeong Ji-yong reaches the point of devotion of physical body and riddance of consciousness. The subject is linked to a possibility of another aesthetics disassembling identity of Seeing Subject. Poems written by Jeong Ji-yong achieve self-establishment of Seeing Subject in the modern places such as ``deck on ship`` and ``glass window``. But he breaks down the position of modern Seeing Subject by reaching such a formative self-forgetfulness. This is a peak of modernity Jeong`s poems have and at the same time, the point of transition and disassembly of modern Seeing Subject. His poems show process of forming modern subject by aesthetically establishing identity of Seeing Subject while his poems reach aesthetic individualization which makes identity of Seeing Subject anonymous. This is a dual meaning that aesthetic modernity in the poems written by Jeong Ji-yong in 1930s has.
