국제화 교육의 현황과 과제 = Global Educatio:Current State and Future Directions

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국제화 시대에 개인, 사회, 국가의 가치는 이러한 국제화의 물결에서 낙오되지 않고, 환경변화에 앞서서 발전하며, 궁극적으로는 하나된 세계 속에서 모든 인류와 더불어 살아갈 수 있는가의 여부에 따라 결정된다 할 수 있으므로, 사회과 교육은 새로운 시대에서 요구되는 새로운 지식, 새로운 규범, 그리고 새로운 문화를 창조할 수 있는 역량 있는 인간을 육성해 낼 과제를 안게 되었다는 점에서 한층 그 중요성을 가지게 되었으며 한편으로는 매우 힘겨운 과업을 수행하게 되었다고 할 수 있다.
본 연구는 우리나라 사회과에서의 국제화 교육의 현황을 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 앞으로 국제화 시대에 대응하여 사회과 교육이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시해 보고자 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 우선 국제화라는 개념이 사회과 교육에 대하여 갖는 의미를 고찰하고, 국제화 시대의 요구에 따라 사회과가 가르쳐야 할 내용을 살펴보았다. 또한 사회과에서의 국제화 교육이 향후 나아가야 할 방향을 정립하기 위해서는 먼저 국제화 교육의 현황을 알아보는 것이 필수적이므로, 본 연구에서는 우선 현행 제6차 교육과정 및 제7차 교육과정의 국제화 관련 교육내용을 검토하고, 중등교사들을 대상으로 심층면접과 설문조사를 실시함으로써 실제 교육현장에서 국제화 교육이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는가를 알아보았다. 마지막으로 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 사회과에서 보다 효과적인 국제화 교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 향후 사회과가 지향해야 할 바를 제시하였다.

Every human being acquires knowledge, skills and values and learns the rules of the society through education. Although various disciplines have their shares in educating a desirable citizen, social studies play the most important and distinctive role, since the purpose of social studies education is to cultivate cognitive ability about various social phenomena and to bring up the democratic citizen capable of participating actively in various social affairs. Recent trends towards globalization in many areas of human lives pose great challenges for social studies, while offering a variety of opportunities at the same time.
This study purports to propose the directions for social studies in the globalization era. In this study, we evaluate the current state of global education in social studies by reviewing various aspects of current national curriculum and by analyzing the results from a survey performed on social studies teachers. Based on the discussions, we explore what changes are needed to cope with the challenges from the new era of globalization.
