The purposes of this study were; 1) to examine the relationship between Korean EFL learners' listening proficiency and their use of listening strategies; and 2) to explore the effects of listening strategy training on Korean EFL learners in English classrooms. A total of 985 university students participated in this study in order to find the relationship between Korean students' English listening proficiency and their use of listening strategies. For the experimental part of this study, 108 college students from three classes participated. Two self-report questionnaires and two sets of TOEIC tests were administered to the participants for the purposes of the study. Students from an experimental group received instruction that involved explicit listening strategy training during some portions of the lessons for the twelve-week period of the treatment, whereas the strategy training that students received in another experimental group was implicit. The results of this study revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between the students' use of specific listening strategies and their performance on the listening test. This study, however, failed to find significant effects of listening strategy training on the participants' listening performance.
