국립공원 소재 사찰 및 문화재 설명문의 실태와 그 개선 방안

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 전국 국립공원 소재 주요 사찰 및 문화재 안내문의 실태를 조사하였다. 그 대상이 된 국립공원은 1.설악산국립공원, 2.지리산국립공원, 3.속리산국립공원, 4.계룡산국립공원, 5.내장산국립공원, 6.오대산국립공원, 7.덕유산국립공원, 8.가야산국립공원, 9.월악산국립공원, 10.월출산국립공원 등이다. 이상과 같은 10개 국립공원 소재 21개 사찰의 125개 문화재 안내문(국문, 영문, 일문, 중문)의 내용을 검토하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 문제점이 발견되었다.

(1) 내용의 정확성은 차치하더라도 문법상(맞춤법, 띄어쓰기 등) 오류가 없는 안내문이 거의 없다는 점이 증명되었다. 수많은 내외국 관광객이 찾는 국립공원 소재 사찰의 안내문 실태가 이 정도라는 것은, 우리나라 문화관광정책에 있어 심각한 문제가 아닐 수 없다.
(2) 영문안내문의 경우 의미가 제대로 전달되지 않는 사례가 부지기수였다. 그리고 한자발음 그대로를 알파벳으로 옮겨 외국인이 그 의미를 이해할 수 없는 경우도 허다하였다. 이것은 외국인들의 이해를 도울 수 있는 단어와 표현으로 고쳐져야 할 것이다.
(3) 일문과 중문 안내문은 영문 안내문에 비하여 너무 적었다. 이는 일본인과 중국인 관광객들의 수적 증가를 감안할 때 시급히 개선되어야 할 것이다.
(4) 같은 문화재를 놓고 내용이 일치하지 않는 복수의 안내문이 있는 사례도 발견된다. 관광객의 혼란을 없애기 위해서라도 이것은 정리, 통일되어야 할 것이다.
(5) 안내문의 디자인이 세련되지 못하였을 뿐 아니라, 같은 사찰에 서로 다른 디자인의 안내문이 있는 경우도 여럿이다. 또 안내문의 표면 및 인쇄 상태가 조악스러운 것들이 의외로 많으며, 심지어 마모되어 읽을 수 없거나 종이로 붙인 사례까지 있다.

이같은 문제점을 시정하기 위해서는 다음과 같은 점들이 요구된다.

(1) 안내문의 초고을 작성할 때 관련 전문가(불교학자, 국사학자)가 참여하여야 한다.
(2) 현재의 안내문을 적당히 수정, 보완하는 선에서 그치기보다는 전면적, 근본적인 개편이 요구되므로 이를 위한 추진기구가 조직되는 것이 좋다. 되도록이면 같은 사찰의 안내문을 작성하고 안내판을 제작하는 기관이 통일되어야 한다.
(3) 안내문의 초고는 국문학자의 감수를 받아 윤문을 한 뒤 완성하여야 한다.
(4) 국문 안내문을 외국어로 번역할 경우 관련 전문가가 초역을 한 후, 해당 언어 원어민의 자문을 받아야 한다.
(5) 안내판으로 제작되기 직전 최종디자인 상태에서 원고 작성자의 최종교정을 거쳐야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research focuses on the present situation of informations about major temples and cultural properties in national parks. The national parks researched are Sorak-San(Mt.) National Park, Jiri-San National Park, Songni-San National Park, Kyeryong-San National Park, Naejang-San National Park, Odae-San National Park, Dukyoo-San National Park, Gayea-San Nationa Park, Wolak-San National Park and Wolchul-San National Park. After checking 125 informations(Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese) about major temples and cultural properties in national parks, we found serious problems as follow:

(1) Not mentioning historical facts about temples and cultural properties, almost every information shows grammatical mistakes in the sentences of informations.
(2) In case of English information, many sentences do not make senses. For example, coarse translations like "sojaeji" meaning location or "hwajangsil" meaning restroom are shown in information.
(3) There are few Japanese information and Chinese information, compared with English information. Considering the rapid increase of Japanese and Chinese tourists, information of two languages must be provided.
(4) There are many discordance among informations about the same thing. These discordances must be checked and corrected with right information.
(5) The style of information board seems too coarse to match the atmosphere of temples or cultural properties. Some informations are too old to read the contents.

In order to solve the problems mentioned above, we believe that following suggestions must be accepted:

(1) Scholars majoring Buddhism and Korean history must take part in the first step of writing information.
(2) A special institution must be established to reform the present system and to control it systematically. Partial changes of information always bring the discordance among the established informations.
(3) Information writing must be proceeded under the control of scholars majoring Korean.
(4) In case of translation to other languages, translated sentences must be read by native speakers of the language.
(5) Before the production of information board, informations must be double-checked byhe first writer of the information.
