The purpose of this study was to understand the usefulness of Draw-a-Story(DAS) as a screening tool in
the hospital setting. The subjects were 34 patients with DEP, 76 with SCZ, and 78 normal adults. DAS &
MMPI-2 were used for research tools. First, the result of the response differences of DAS and MMPI-2
between the clinical and the non-clinical group showed the following. Emotion content of DAS showed that
the non-clinical group was the happiest and accomplishment oriented, and that the DEP group was the
most negative. Self-image showed a difference between the clinical and non-clinical group. Second, the result
of analyzing stimulus picture choice showed that more people in the DEP group most identified themselves
with those riding the parachutes, and among the chronic SCZ and the non-clinical group, most people
identified those wearing the wedding veils. Third, according to the result of analyzing the relation of DAS
and MMPI-2 between the clinical and non-clinical groups, the emotion content and self-image were positive
relationships. In the DEP group, the emotion content showed a negative correlation with scale of 2 on the
MMPI-2. In the non-clinical group, the self-image showed negative correlation with scale 2 of MMPI-2. The
results have on firmed that the DAS is useful as a screening and diagnostic aid for diagnosing DEP;
however, it seems to need further research through a variety of methods for the SCZ.
