      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this paper is to describe the accent systems and their mechanisms in a dialect in the Gyeongsang province of Korea. In this paper, I will discuss the three-class type found in this area, and report on data obtained during fieldwork there. I have previously discussed the accents of this area in Son (2012, 2014).
The accent system is as follows: The numerals above the columns indicate the number of syllables, and the circled numerals at the heads of the rows indicate the position of the accent kernel. Type ? denotes no kernel, with the initial two syllables being high, type ① denotes the kernel after the first syllable, which is high, and type -② indicates that all syllables until the penult, which is where the kernel lies, are high.
Looking at the types of accents, we see that when words in the ? group are three syllables or more, the first and second syllables are always high, with the syllables following the second showing a falling accent. For type ①, only the first syllable is high, and for single-syllable instances of this type, the syllable can be either high or low, with the low accent being seen when the word connects to a following word. There is no distinction between this and the ? type when the word is used alone in declarative form, but when attaching a particle, type ① has the form H(L), whereas the ? type has the form H(H).
With the -② type, when a particle is attached, the high accent extends from the first syllable except in the case of two-syllable words. This means that the word begins low, then becomes high from the second to the penultimate syllable, with the accent kernel on that penultimate syllable.
In this paper, I will take Gwangyang dialects and discuss phenomena, such as the accents of compound words, which have not yet considered.
