연쇄범죄와 프로파일링 방법론 연구 = A Study on Serial Crimes: Routine Activity and Profiling Approach

Recently, there are growing number of so called, "motivationless crimes" in our society. What is alarming to us is that these offenders commit their heinous crimes against someone they even do not have any relationship before. Serial crimes include serial killing, serial robbery, serial rapes, serial arsons, and so forth. These kinds of serial crimes are difficult for police investigators to solve a case with conventional tactics because of their unusual nature as well as linkage blindness between associated crimes.
Routine activities approach is a viable explanation to understand recent increases of serial crimes in our society. As people's routine life style has changed, there are increasing number of suitable targets available to potential offenders such as helpless victims and undefensible spaces. For a practical reason, police investigators are required to understand and develop new scientific investigation tools, that is, profiling techniques (e.g., criminal profiling, crime profiling, victim profiling, and geographic profiling) in order to arrest offenders more efficiently.
