      The purposes of this paper are to investigate the structure of the RIS of Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, analyze the characteristics of technological innovation, and examine the effects of innovation principal elements of the RIS. This paper argues that the firms of the region have experienced product innovation rather than process innovation. Based on the logit and regression for the sample firms, this paper finds that the RIS is an important factor which promotes the technological innovation of the firms. In particular this paper suggests that universities and social innovation networks are two important elements of the RIS which may affect the technological innovation of the firms. Based on the results of the analysis this paper discusses some policy issues in regard to the construction of the RIS for Daegu-Gyeongbuk region
