The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Keller`s ARCS strategy using STS materials on the middle school students` learning achievement in the unit of reproduction and development, learning attitude toward science, and the perception on STS. The experimental group was taught by the ARCS strategy using STS materials, while the control group was taught by the traditional teaching method. The results indicated that the experimental group and control group students represented the similar scores on learning achievement in the post-test 1 right after the treatment (p>.05). In the post-test 2 after 4 months, however, the experimental group represented the higher scores than the control group did (p<.01), indicating that the experimental group students retained their knowledge. In addition, the experimental group students represented the higher scores in learning attitude toward science as well as STS perception than the control group students did (p<.05). Overall, ARCS strategy using STS materials helped retain students` knowledge, and improved learning attitude toward science, as well as perception on STS.
