This paper analyzes the inflation-hedging abilities of bond, stock, and real estate(housing), using a investment horizon effect model. For the empirical analysis, I construct three VAR models with endogenous variables of asset yield rate vector, state variable vector, and inflation rate. State variable vector includes yield spread, dividend yield, and cheonse-housing price ratio. Data covers the period of 1987 Q1 - 2011 Q1. in Korea. In the case of excess return model, the inflation-hedging ability of benchmark rate(call rate) improve with the investment horizon. Bond has partly inflation-hedging ability in the long horizon whereas housing excess return loses inflation-hedging ability in the long horizon. Stock shows adverse inflation-hedging regardless of investment horizon. The gross rate of return model gives similar results to the excess return model. In the price model, housing price shows the inflation-hedging ability especially in the long horizon. But the hedging power of the housing price is smaller than the power of bond's return rate.
