탈영토화시대의 영토교육 방향 -우리나라 교사와 학생 대상 설문 결과를 중심으로- = The Study of the Direction of Territory Education in Deterritorialization Era

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to discuss the directions and perspectives on territory education in Korea considering the debate on the utility of territory education in the age of globalization. It explains the goal of territory education by showing three perspectives such as nationalist perspective, placeness perspective and civic patriotism perspective. It analyzes current territory education in Korea and discusses directions in the future development by using survey results that the author has finished in the 2009 research on “The Territory Education on the East Sea and Dokdo in Korea.” The results of this paper are as follows. First, the territory education in Korea was initiated as a correspondence to hegemonic nationalism practiced by some neighboring countries. Therefore, although it has been successful to help students develop patriotism and nature loving attitude, it has largely overlooked to help students develop their ability of logical and critical thinking based on specific materials and data. Second, the demand from teachers and students in Korea lies mostly on a kind of territory education in which personal experiences are constantly involved, rather than on a kind of territory education based on nationalism. They also prefer to have territory education playing a role of even developing students` problem-solving ability and critical thinking on the territory problems, not just a simple role of stirring up nationalism.
