취미기사와 신여성 = The New Woman and Modes of Narrative of "Educational-interesting Articles" in Colonial Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 신여성이 재현되는 방식과 주체의 관계를 탐구하기 위해 ``취미기사`` 에 나타난 서사양식과 주체위치를 분석하였다. < 신여성 >의 ``취미기사``는 당시 신여성을 둘러싼 발화와 시선을 전형화하는 장치로 기능하였기에 중요하게 분석할 필요가 있는 재현물이다. 첫째, 연민-고백의 서사양식으로, 구여성의 공적 말하기에서 시작된 이 서사양식은 구여성만이 아니라 신여성에게도 확대 사용되어 질시-고백의 양식으로 전환하였다. 이는 두 번째 양식, 즉 엿보기의 서사를 예고하는 것이기도 하다. 감시와 도덕적 질타의 태도에 의해 구축되는 이 서사양식은 신여성을 허영과 껍데기의 존재, 근대를 흉내내는 ``나쁜`` 주체로 규정짓는다. 셋째, 훈계와 명령 또는 권유로 이뤄지는 모방의 서사는 신여성을 위계적 가족 구조에서 낮은 지위를 차지하는 며느리 대신 애정적 부부관계의 대동한 파트너로서 애정관계의 동학을 관리하는 주체로 구성한다. 이는 신여성담론이 조선의 여성을 복수주체(multiple subject)로서의 근대적 여성주체로 새롭게 구성하는 장(場)이었음을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

For the purpose of exploring the relationship between the subject and the representation of the ``New Woman``, this paper analyzed the modes of narrative and subject-position of ``Educational-interesting(chuimi) Articles`` at the New Woman, which played as an apparatus to typicalize the gaze of and the statement about the ``New Woman``. Firstly, the compassion-confession mode, which came from ``Old Woman`s public speaking, was also applied to that of ``New Woman,`` and covered into the blame-confession mode. This mode also heralded the coming of the second one, peeping narrative composed of surveillance and moralistic scold. ``New Woman`` is defined as ``bad`` subject who mimics the modern/western style, featuring vanity and shoddiness. Thirdly, the narrative composed of admonition, command, and encouragement defines the New Woman as a subject who has he initiative to control a love relationship between husband and wife as an equal sexual partner of her husband, instead of defining as the lowest daughter-in-law position in the hierarchical patrilineal family structure. This implicates that the discourse around the New Woman became a field where a traditional woman subject newly came to the fore as a modern subject as multiple subject.
