There has been numerous researches on Turtle Ship due to its popularity in Korea. The Turtle Ship is representative of the Korean shipbuilding history and symbolizes the overcoming of the national crisis. However, the researches so far have been limited to historical analysis and understanding of the ship's shape and function. 34 years ago, Republic of Korea Naval Academy led a way to restore tens of turtle ships; however, none of them were able to set sail. I have argued in favor of restoring a turtle ship as a sail ship, not as a sculpture, that can be used for navigation training. Following are the purposes of this research. 1) Conduct a fundamental research in support of restoring a turtle that can be sailed by midshipmen to emulate the battle of Hallyeosudo, where Admiral Yi, Sun-shin emerged victorious against the Japanese navy. 2) Keep detailed records of traditional Korean shipbuilding in order to continue the legacy of the traditional shipbuilders and craftsmen.3) Through the study of Hwangpo Sailboat(Korean Sailboat), continue the legacy of the traditional sailors and their navigation technology and know-hows.
