This study examined the perception of mothers of young children and the present condition of the early literacy worksheets. 553 mothers in Seoul and Kyungnam area were participated. The data were analyzed using chi square with windows SPSS 10.0.
The results of the study showed that 56.1% of mothers answered using worksheets are the effective way for teaching early literacy. And 62% of mothers responded that they used ‘worksheets' or ‘the visiting teacher with worksheets' for the development of literacy of their young children. 82.4% of mothers decided worksheets of their own accord. Furthermore, the advantage of the worksheets was that they are developed systematically for various age level. And the lack of creativity and repeated drill without enhancing thinking were considered the disadvantages of using worksheets.
