This article aims to present how to develop didactical content to teach essay-writing to primary school students. To accomplish this, the author clarifies the concept of, nature of, and constraints encountered in essay-writing; presents the direction and objects of teaching essay-writing; and then discusses how to develop didactical content to teach essay-writing to primary school students. The author defines essay-writing as `argumentative writing based on critical reading and creative problem-solving` and describes its nature. With regard to the processes of essay-writing, constraints such as cognitive, social, and linguistic ones that writers could encounter have been pointed out. The direction in which teaching essay-writing to primary school students should proceed is proposed on the basis of four dimensions, namely, the development of thinking ability, experiences in various writing genres, inter- and cross-subject approaches, and the learners` traits. Based on this, the objects of teaching essay-writing are established by considering each learner in terms of a person as a whole who has the ability to think, express himself/herself, learn, and communicate. The methods to develop didactical content to teach essay-writing to primary school students are based on five categories, namely, text, thinking, topic, language, and communication while taking into consideration the resources required by the learners to write essays. The author finally discusses the resources available to primary school learners and the inter-relationship among the five above-mentioned categories.
