As a result of the increase of population and the improvement of liv-ing standards, the numbers of cars have a rapidly increasing trend and the space of parking lots in urban area become insufficient. Gongju city does not also have enough space of parking lots. Jemin stream that flows through Gongju city has some space of parking lots.
This paper was performed to examine the feasibility of constructing streambed parking lot, stream-covered parking lot, and Keumsung deten-tion basin-covered parking lot. For this, the runoffs of Jemin stream and Keum river were analyzed. Jemin stream of 7.6㎦ runs into Keum river of 7.126㎦. Therefore, Jemin stream shows a backwater phenomenon in time of flood in Keum river.
The 100 year design flow of Jemin stream was 170^1/s. Though the water level of Keum river approached to the maximum level of July 22. 1987, Jemin stream did not overflow from the backwater analysis by stan-dard step method.
The result is concluded as follows.
(1) The plan of constructing streambed parking lot between Kyochon bridge and Bongwhang ridge is not appropriate because the water level goes up rapidly in time of design flood, the width of stream is not wide, and the floodplain management is good with lawn growing.
(2) The plan of constructing stream-covered parking lot between Keumsung bridge and Sansum bridge requires a careful consideration be-cause of water pollution and construction difficulty.
(3) The plan of construction Keumsung detention basin-covered parking lot is recommendable.
