문화의 국제관계 = 네트워크 개념을 통한 이해

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Despite the explosive attention on the role of culture and civilizations since the collapse of the Cold War, we find a couple of problems in related discourses if we look at its roots. The most serious one is its West-oriented, political nature which has not been disclosed well to the public. Major scholars of multiculturalism, such as Ruth Benedict in the aftermath of the Second World War and Samuel P. Huntington in the 1990s, share the West-centric perspective while they have urged an open perspective to other cultures. This paper discusses how the cultural discourse has been intertwined with political factors, and tries to understand what culture means in the era of globalization. In particular, this paper emphasizes the concept of networks in delineating the structural aspects of international culture in the twenty-first century. Culture, in this paper, is regarded as a 'relation' rather than as an 'entity' since it has close relationship with political factors. In this context, this paper discusses the dynamic dimensions of international culture in terms of its flows and mixture. It also deals with the applicability of the concept of networks to international relations.
