The catch by the stow next fishery from 1970 to 1989 was analyzed in order to reveal its fluctuation characteristics.
The catch exceeded about 100,000M/T in 1972 and about 200,000 M/T in 1980. The catch showed maximum in 1984 by 258,307 M/T, and then its fluctuation showed decreasing trend. The catch per number of fishing boat increased from 110.14 M/T in 1973 to 201.08 M/T in 1980, and the catch per gross tonnage of fishing boat showed maximum in 1974 bur 6.00 M/T.
The main fishing period of the large stow next fishery appeared from September to November. The catch was led by the amount caught in the western coast before 1971 and by the amount caught in the southern coast from 1972.
Four groups of fishes could be distinguished by principal component analysis of the annual catch. The first group that the catch showed a positive correlation and a steady tendency was composed of the fishes such as blue crab, spanish mackerels, cuttle fish and hair tail. The second group composed of flounders and corvenia revealed a negative correlation and a steady tendency. The third group that the catch kept a weak correlation and showed an increasing tendency was composed of the fishes such as monk fish, round herring, sardine and barley shrimp. The fourth group composed of file fich, small shrimp, pomfret and bigeyed herring revealed a weak correlation and a decreasing tendency.
