Symptoms of new colonial era after the Korean War appeared in the cultural changes. Especially, American Cinema and Music that in flooded into Korean after mid 1950`s had affected on daily life of Korean. Fascinating American mass culture from USA Army turned it to American modernity, which was different from that of Japanese colonial era. Korean people had a romantic fantasy about bountiful capitalism at that time. Utopian image of America revealed queer incongruity with circumstance of Korea after the War. Colorful American modernity was absolute fascination the moment it was a cause of inferiority complex to Korean people. If cinema gives a fantasy to spectators, American modernity from screen give us all kind of dreams. Some Korean people read American mass culture as lower culture, the others looked on as progressive and a kind of elite. None the less most Korean people considered American mass culture as a gospel without critical thinking. American army showed up as an occupation troop at the same time as reinforcement. But the image of an occupation troop became faint as time goes by. Korean people started unreasonable longing for the American culture while taking economical support. A social consciousness is well brought out in cinema and mass music of that time. Accordingly, my writing focused on how American culture changed Korean way of life and moral consciousness.
