The prevalence of allergic inflammation conditions such as allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis is increasing among modern-day people. These chronic diseases are common for both men and women of all ages, causing discomfort in everyday lives. In previous study, Rumecis Radix and Cordyceps militaris formula (YYF) have an anti-inflammatory effect on activated human mast cells. However, a regulatory effect of YYF on mast cell proliferation induced by thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) remains unclear. To identify an anti-proliferative effect and the fundamental mechanism of YYF, the author used a human mast cell line HMC-1. YYF increased the release of p53 and Bax. It also restored caspase-3 activity reduced by TSLP. YYF suppressed the release of murine double minute-2 protein, which is related to the regulation of p53 protein. Also, it decreased the level of interleukin (IL)-13 protein and mRNA. These findings suggest that YYF can be used as an effective material when developing an anti-inflammatory agents.
