This study is to analyze the causes for job retention and leave of female managers in South Korea. Paying attention to the fact that women’s career interruption can have a long-term negative impact on lifelong human capital accumulation and career formation, in particular, this study aims to identify the reality of career interruption in high-capacity female managerial positions, and to analyze the influencing factors. Using Korean Women Manager Panel study, we found that female managers showed a continuous increase in the probability of leaving the workforce up to a certain age, and it was found that commuting time also had an impact. Based on the analysis results, this study suggests the need for improvements in the working environment, such as the activation of maternity and childcare support policies, the implementation of flexible work hours, and the expansion of telecommuting, to prevent the labor market exit of female managers. The study is expected to contribute to exploring the policy directions to prevent women from exiting their job and labor market and reduce gender gaps within the labor market.
