불교 창작 판소리 <불타전> 연구* = A Study on the Newly Made Buddhist Pansori “Bulta-jeon”

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper summarizes the making process of the newly made Buddhist pansori “Bulta-jeon” (The Life Story of Buddha), and examines the context of the Buddhist tradition contained in the lyrics of “Bulta-jeon”.
“Bulta-jeon” was written by Jae-yeong Kim and composed by Suk-seon Ahn at the request of Song-am Ji-won, a monk of Bulgwang-sa temple, in 1987. “Bulta-jeon” uses the praise for the Buddha, which is used in Korean Buddhist rituals, and traditional Buddhist conceptual words of Korean Buddhism. Therefore, it does not simply convey the life story of Buddha, but embodies the Buddhist ceremony through pansori.
Through this paper, the following results can be expected: First, while organizing the making process of “Bulta-jeon”, I interviewed Song-am Ji-won and Suk-seon Ahn. This laid the groundwork for archiving data to confirm how the very meaningful “Bulta-jeon” was made in Korean Buddhism.
Second, it was confirmed how to use the traditional Buddha biography scriptures to compose modern Buddhist content called “Bulta-jeon”.
Through this, the context of the life history of Buddha, which is currently generally accepted in Korean Buddhism, was confirmed.
Third, by increasing the value of “Bulta-jeon” through the above achievements, I hope that there will be an opportunity to find a way to regularize the performance of “Bulta-jeon” at least within the Buddhist community, and to disseminate Buddhist pansori in connection with broadcasting.
