“글로벌화 對 현지화”에 관한 오랜 논쟁을 새로운 관점으로 조명 = A fresh Look at an Old Debate on Globalization versus Localization

국문 초록 (Abstract)

국제시장으로 진출하는데 있어 글로벌화할 것인가 아니면 현지화할 것인가에 관한 논쟁은 매우 오랫동안 지속되어 왔다. 본 논문은 이러한 흑백논리의 논쟁을 끝마치고 문제의 핵심을 동태적인 관점에서 새롭게 해결하였다. 심층적 문헌연구를 통하여 국제화의 다양한 형태인 다국내적, 글로벌, 그리고 초국적 등의 기업을 “통합-적응(I-R) 모델”을 활용하여 이 논쟁을 분석했다. 다음으로 이러한 기업들이 어떻게 동태적으로 변하는 가를 보여주기 위해서 “동태적 다변화 조정(DDC) 모델”을 사용하여 더욱 정교하게 설명하였다. 구체적으로 가치사슬을 상류부문과 하류부문으로 나누어 생산추구형과 시장추구형으로 구분하여 경영환경에 따라 전략적 선택을 달리하면서 다음 단계로 발전하는 과정을 사례를 통해서 보여 줌으로써 새로운 이론적 관점 뿐 아니라 현실적 시사점도 제공하였다.

The debate between globalization and localization has been a lengthy and drawn out affair This paper aims to end the debate as it exists - a debate of black or white, right or wrong - and move it into an entirely new arena where dynamism is the name of the game A rigorous literature review provides readers with a fundamental understanding of typologies of firms such as multidomestic, global and transnational, and how they relate to the thems of standardization and differentiation, by analyzing them from an integration-responsiveness framework perspective This is followed by the introduction of a new firm concept the dynamically globalizing firm, which is representative of the dynamic nature of the firm and its ability to move from domestic to transnational The Dynamism of firms is schematically represented by introduction to the dynamic diversification-coordination (DDC) model, which allows firms to divide their value chain into possible paths to becoming a transnational firm - market-seeking or production-seeking
