하버마스의 의사소통행위이론과 서번트 리더십의 상관관계 연구 = A Study on the relationship between Servant Leadership and Habermas` Theory of Communicative Action

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국교회가 20세기를 통해 이룬 성장은 실로 그 전례를 찾아보기 어려운 놀라운 결과이다. 특히 한국의 경제발전과 교회성장이 그 궤도를 함께 하면서 성도의 숫자가 크게 증가함은 물론 사회적 영향력이 확대 된 것 역시 부인할 수 없는 현실이 되었다. 사회 지도층의 상당수가 그리스도인인 작금의 현실은 한국교회에 큰 자부심을 심어주는 고무적인 현상임에 분명하다. 하지만 그런 영광 뒤에 숨겨져 있던 어두운 단면들이 최근 사회적 지탄의 대상으로 부각되면서 한국교회 전체가 심각한 위기를 경험하고 있다. 돈과 권력, 그리고 명예와 연관된 교회의 각종 스캔들은 이제 새롭게 들리지도 않을 만큼 자주 벌어지는 악순환을 반복하고 있으며, 양극화된 한국사회의 급변과 유사한 한국교회의 분열 양상도 대단히 비관적이다. 본 논문은 이런 한국교회의 위기를 극복하고자 하는 의도에 바탕을 두고 리더십 측면에서 한국교회의 위기에 접근했다. 우선 그동안 한국교회의 양적 성장을 가능케 했던 리더십을 한국 전통문화에 바탕을 둔 가부장적 리더십으로 규정하고 그 내면에 담긴 긍정적인 요소를 설명한후, 시대의 흐름과 함께 부각된 부정적 요소를 설명했다. 그리고 그런 부정적 요소들이 한국교회의 위기 형성에 일조를 했다는 점을 지적하면서, 그에 대한 대응책으로 서번트 리더십(Servant Leadership)의 도입을 주장했다. 아울러 서번트 리더십이 자칫 가부장적 리더십과 이분법적 대립으로 흘러 본연의 목적을 상실하지 않도록 하버마스의 의사소통이론의 내용을 부가적으로 연결했다. 여러 이질적인 이론들의 결합은 그 이론들의 정당성을 인정받으려는 노력이 궁극적인 목적이 아니라, 한국교회의 현 위기를 극복하는데 도움이 되고자하는 의도가 더욱 중요하게 작용했다. 이는 서번트 리더십이나 하버마스의 의사소통행위이론의 본질적 특성상 양자 모두 이루고자 하는 특정 목적을 달성하기 위한 도구적 역할을 감당한다는 점과, 이루고자 하는 궁극적 목적을 위해서라면 그 자신의 폐기도 기꺼이 받아 들여야 할 운명을 지니고 있다는 점에 기인한다. 이런 차원에서 본 연구가 단지 학자들의 연구를 위해 존재하는 이론들의 연합이 아니라, 한국교회의 실존적 위기를 극복하는 현실적 대안으로서 이 모든 과정이 유용하게 사용되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The growth of the Korean Church throughout the 20th century is a historically rare and stunning result. Especially, due to the coexistence of the Korean churches` growth with the explosion of the Korean economy, the expansion of social influence as well as a numerical increase of Korean Christians became an undeniable phase. the present situation that the majority of Korean leaders are Christians should be an impressive fact that gives Korean churches such pride. However, a dark aspect behind this glory has been recently emerging as a shameful target of social critique and Korean Churches as a whole are experiencing a serious crisis. While diverse scandals involved in money, power and fame have happened a lot so that it does not catch any special attention, the separation of Korean churches according to the polarization of Korean society seems to be critical. As an attempt to resolve this crisis of Korean churches, this thesis tries to access it in terms of leadership. First of all, the predominant leadership type of Korean churches during the 20th century, which make possible the numerical growth of Korean churches, is defined as hierarchical leadership and additional explanations on the bright side within this leadership. But, several negative factors popped up as the passing of time and it resulted in a gradual formation of Korean churches` critical situation. As a response to this crisis, this thesis focuses on Servant leadership and connected it to Habermas` theory of communicative action so that the ultimate goal of the thesis would not be a dualistic conflict between hierarchical leadership and servant leadership. An effort for connecting many different theories is not based on the intention to approve their own theoretical appropriateness, but to contribute to the achievement of this thesis` ultimate goal for solving the problem of Korean churches. The essential function of both Servant leadership and Habermas` theory of communicative action is instrumental and have a destiny of being destroyed for the accomplishment of a certain ultimate goal. The expectation of this thesis would not be producing a collection of academic theories for the sake of further scholarly research, but rather a practically useful reaction to overcome the existential crisis of Korean churches.
