유아의 확률적 이해의 출현에 관한 연구 = Young Children's Understanding of Probability

This study aimed to investigate age and sex differences in young children's understanding of probability. Subjects were 296, 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children (149 boys and 147 girls) attending child care centers and kindergartens. Three tasks were administered, requiring students to put events in order for 'probability of an event,' to compare the possibilities for 'probability comparisons,' and to determine all possible elements for 'sample space.' Data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe test. The results show that there were significant differences among age groups in the sample space and probability comparisons but not in probability of an event. And there were no significant differences between boys and girls in the three tasks. The findings have implications for the educational research and development of teaching methods for young children's learning of probability.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 유아가 일상의 경험적 맥락에서 비형식적으로 획득되어지는 확률에 대한 이해의 연령과 성에 따른 발달적 특성을 밝히기 위한 것이었다. 연구대상은 어린이집이나 유치원에 다니는 3-5세 유아 296명으로 남아 149명, 여아 147명이 참여하였다. 유아의 확률적 이해의 측정을 위해서는 표본공간, 사건 확률, 확률 비교의 하위요인별 활동과제를 사용하였으며, 자료 분석은 t-검증과 일원배치분산분석과 Schêffe 사후검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과 전체 확률의 이해와 하위요인인 표본공간과 확률비교에서는 각 연령 간 유의한 차이를 보였으나 사건 확률에서는 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 또한 유아의 확률적 이해 전체 및 하위요인에서 성에 따른 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구결과는 유아의 확률 발달에 대한 이해와 확률학습을 위한 구체적인 교수-학습방안 모색을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하였다고 볼 수 있다.
