The academic circle have not reached public admitted views on some basic problems in Altaic studies. One of the important reasons is the inadequate studies on the relevant language families and languages. Realizing that, Inner Mongolia University has been working on the studies of the Mongolia language and languages of the Mongolian language group.
During 1950s and 1960s, the Mongolian language and its dialects were emphasized. Since 1980s, the Mongolian languages-Dagur, Tu, Dong-xiang, Baoan and Eastern Yugur have been studied. The ancient Mongolian documents have been researched, too. The theses for degrees have also taken the comparison and evolution of Mongolian languages as subjects. In recent years, some theses for doctor's degree directly have dealt with the Altaic Language family, such as the comparison between Manchu and Mongolia;, Turkish and Mongolian. In the recent projects of the Mongolian language Institute of Inner Mongolia University, some researchers have been organized to write the comparative grammar of Mongol languages based on which Altaic languages would be studied.
