수암의 황강학파와 그 사상 = A study on the Huangkang School of Suahm Kwon Sang-ha, and it's thought

This article is an examination on the distinguished scholars of Hwangkang School and their thought. During the last two decades interest in the controversy between Hohak and Rakhak(Horaknonbyeon) has been growing exponentially. Horaknonbyeon(湖洛論辨) began to develop among the scholars belonging to the Hwangkang School of Suahm Kwon Sang-ha(1641-1721), who upheld Chu Hsi's thought by aligning himself with the successor of Yi I and Song Si-yeol. Kwon Sang-ha had eight distinguished disciples widely known as the “Eight Scholars of Kang-mun.” Among them Han Won-jin and Yi Gan were the most distinguished scholars who developed philosophical discourse. The themes of the Mibal(未發) and the Osang(五常) were most controversial.
Even though “Eight Scholars of Kang-mun studied under the same instruction of Suahm Kwon Sang-ha, Han Won-jin had significantly different understanding of the Osang and the Mibal with Yi Gan. Roughly speaking, in comparison with Yi Gan, Han Won-jin stressed the difference of qi(氣) among human beings, which could affect to become a sage. In comparison with Han Won-jin, Yi Gan thought that human beings had equal possibility to become a sage. The Philosophical controversy which started in Huangkang School founded by Kwon Sang-ha, had contributed to advance in Korean Neo-Confucianism. Considering Huangkang School's impact to the world of thought in the late Chosun Dynasty, systematic research on the Huangkang School of Kwon Sang-ha is very important task for the understanding of korean philosophy and history.
