This is a case study of Early Bilingual Reading of Yuha, a second generation Korean child in the United States who learned to read both Korean and English before the age of six, the usual age when formal reading is taught in school and when it is believed that most children are ready to learn to read.
The proposed Early Bilingual Reading consists of four stages. In the first stage, in which Lado's experimental edition of Early Reading English: Phrase Book One (1972) was taught, memorization was a prominent characteristic and seemed superior to an adult's. In the second stage, the subject's linguistic analysis was a prominent characteristics and seemed to be innate in that she was not taught to analyze language but achieved it spontaneously. In the third stage, she could read creatively and independently any regulatory-pronounced words that she had not seen before. In the last stage, the transfer of skills from English to Korean was made.
