위탁가정 특성, 위탁가정의 가족 및 사회적 지지와 위탁아동 특성에 따른 위탁부모의 양육효능감 = The Parenting Efficacy of Foster Parents in Accordance with Foster Family Characteristics, Family and Social support, and Foster Care Child Characteristics

The purpose of this study was to investigate the parenting efficacy of foster parents in accordance with foster family characteristics, family and social support, and foster care child characteristics. The subjects of this study were 99 foster care parents who live in Daejeon, Korea. The major findings are as follows.
1) The foster parents have felt a relatively high degree of parenting efficacy. Parenting efficacy related to the ability to bring up foster children in health ranked the highest and the ability to coach them through their studies ranked the lowest.
2) The study on the parenting efficacy of foster parents found significant differences in such variables as the foster parents' educational backgrounds and religions, the monthly income and housing status of the foster family, the relationship between the foster child and the parents, the motive behind foster care, the number of real children who live with the foster children, the existence of previous foster care experience, a gross sum of the hours of foster care experience, the number of children who are currently in foster care, the satisfaction of people regarding the grant aid allotted for foster care, the gender of each foster care child, the period of foster care, the existence of a handicap in the foster care child and the foster care child's level of emotional stability.
3) Of this study's five sub-factors, parenting efficacy related to the ability to coach foster children with their studies was the single sub-factor that showed significant differences in all three categories of foster family characteristics: family and social support, foster family characteristics and foster care child characteristics. It grew to a higher, more stable level in the cases of the foster parents' social status, volunteering patterns and history, experience as foster parents, successful hours of foster care, continuous fostering of the same foster child and ability to stabilize the foster child's emotional state.
