The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 3 kinds of supplemental drinks on the electrolyte variables and performance of high school cyclists. The supplemental drinks were consists of water, 10% carbohydrate and 6% sports drink beverage. The subjects were consumed 500ml of each beverage before the each trial. We draw the blood at resting, before and after the trial, and 30min following trial. We measured the blood glucose, blood lactate, K+, Na+, Cl- and performence time and heart rate of each subject. The results were as follows; 1) There was a significant increased in the blood glucose level which was 117mg/dl in the carbohydrate group at the time of before the trial(p<.05). 2) There was a significant decreased in the blood lactate level of sport drink group(3.88mg/dl) compared to water drink group(5.55mg/dl) at the time of 30min following trial(p<.05). 3) There was a significant increased in the Na+ concentration in sport drink group(215.8mg/dl) compared to water drink group(200.8mg/dl) at the time of before the trial(P<.05). 4) There was no significant different in K+ and Cl- concentration among the groups. 5) There was no significant different in performance record and heart rate among the groups.
