The conceptual change about acid and base was studied with the students in middle school. Before teaching about acid and base to the students of the third grade in middle school, the acid base concepts, which the students had previously, were analyzed by paper and pencil tests. And after teaching about acid and base, the same tests with same group of students were carried out and analyzed. The teaching method was traditional: giving instructions by teacher without any discussion. The analyzing results show that there was no big change in acid-base concepts of students before and after learning. And also the developing of concepts to the higher level was hardly observed. To improve this situation, further studies about preconceptions of the students are necessary and the researchers should pay attention to the teaching and learning in the class.
