다문화 시민성 확립을 위한 의사소통교육의 중요성 = The importance of Communication Education for Establishment of Multicultural Citizenship

This article aims to issue the importance of multicultural education at University, to lay the theoretical foundation for this and to seek for specific practical devices. In this article, I regard the purpose of multicultural communication education as establishing multicaltural citizenship. In this context, I try to suggest the direction of education that both foreign and domestic students in universities in Korean will be able to familiarize themselves with cultural communication. The citizenship in global civil society is multicultural citizenship and its characteristics is the respect of pluralism, reflecting on the publicity, sensitivity to fellow citizens. The problem is how the citizenship is implemented. In this paper, I intend to laid the communication education in university on sub-category of civil education. Multicultural education particularly in universities is important. Because foreign and domestic students in Korea are human resources who play a key role in solving a major problem in multicultural society. Only the time when they equip themselves with inter-cultural negotiation skills, we will be able to approach to the global civil situation a little bit closer without economic, political, and social mistakes in global civil society. For this, in this paper, I propose the direction that communication education will go, reviewing the current state of multicultural communication education. I offer four suggestions, first, as part of basic education, strengthening of cultural communication, second, the development of programs to increase liberal arts(lectures, books, operational planning, etc.), third, the preparation of programs that are helpful to both foreign and domestic students in developing multi-cultural problem-solving skills and fourth, academic communication skills not only language.
