This study addressed ways in which parental poverty(PP) factors are associated with child physical aggression(CPA) and/or hyperactivity(CH), and how these relationships may be accelerated by mother-child negative play interaction(NPI). To better understand the developmental origins of child physical aggression and hyperactivity, and to identify targets for early preventive interventions, this study examined the effects of parental poverty and mother-child negative play interaction to decrease children with physical aggression and hyperactivity. Participants included 217 mother-child dyads. Measurements, family poverty, mother-child play interaction, child physical aggression, and child hyperactivity which are mother self-reported were administered when the children were from 5 to 7 years old. Using structure equation modeling analysis, the results of this study confirmed that mother-child negative play interaction is a cause factor of the linkage between parental poverty and child physical aggression, as well as hyperactivity. Thus, mother-child play interaction in positive ways acts to buffer the negative cycle of family adversity.
