The theory of prestressed concrete with the aid of supporting experimental results has developed into a great many structures constructed in the practice thereof. And our government followed this world-wide trend to include in its 1963 edition of Ministry of Construction(MOC) standard plans for Highway Bridge Superstructure a series of Class 1 and 2 composite prestressed concrete bridges of 14-to 30-meter span.
Materials comprising prestressed concrete structures are under highly stressed condition even in the absence of live loads and are more sensitive than conventionally reinforced counterparts to the meteorological and geographical change of the site where the structures are to be placed.
This paper considers under certain assumptions the stress condition of the beam and analyzes the merit of the forementioned standard plan with some resulting recommendations as to the design and practice thereof.
