『혼불』의 텍스트성 ; 『혼불』의 상징어 고찰 = A study on symbolic words in Honbul

This paper would focus on the syntactic-semantic property and usage-aspects of symbolic words in Honbul, written by Choi-myung hee. It can be summarized as following. Through the analysis of Honbul, I studied that, although the general function of symbolic words was to modify a verb or a verb-phrase as an adverb, occasionally a symbolic word in Honbul was used for modifyng a noun by a direct quotation or a determiner. Furthermore, I made clear that a symbolic word used as a modifier without modified words in Honbul, and used as an one word sentence. A symbolic word in Honbul provided the actuality of a scene using the spacing words and punctuation mards and activated semantic property with implicating the meaning of predicate. In addition, I inquired that the distinctive quality of symbolic words was a metaphor and the repeatability and consistency, which was semantic feature of reiterative type, was notedly expressed with spacing mark in Honbul. We could examine aspects of symbolic words in Honbul like that; the number of symbolic words to be showed more than one time is 1,234 and the ratio of miesis and symbolic words was close to ⅔, which meant those were used only one time is 462, over the ⅓ of total symbolic words` number. This meant that the writter restrained the repetition of symbolic words. The fact that there are a lot of newfangled words in Honbul indicates that she is so creative.
